Puel demands compensation

The 50-year-old was in charge at the Stade de Gerland for three years and having failed to win a Ligue 1 title in any of them was sacked with a year left to run on his contract.

The former Lille coach is now demanding payment, not only for the wages of the final year of his contract, but also for damages as he feels his reputation has been harmed as a result of the dismissal.

Puel's lawyer Guy Reiss explained: "First of all there is €3.3 million in wages that are owed for the remainder of the contract, and in respect to compensation for damages to his professional reputation, €1.6 million."

The case has already been heard in Lyon's Labour court but no decision was reached, so has been adjourned until November 10.
