Paris Saint-Germain moved to the top of Ligue 1 with a comfortable 3-0 victory against Montpellier at Parc des Princes.
The side are now two points clear of OGC Nice, who will have the chance to respond against Rennes on Sunday.
Lee Kang-in opened the scoring for PSG in the 10th minute. Kylian Mbappe’s clever run in the penalty box drew defenders away from the incoming Lee, who received Achraf Hakimi’s pass in plenty of space. The 22-year-old managed to find the top corner with his ferocious strike.
PSG’s goal came against the run of play after a bright start from Montpellier, but the visitors faded out of the match as the clock ticked on. Ousmane Dembele was particularly impressive for the hosts, but the 26-year-old was unable to find a way past goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte.
Mbappe also had the opportunity to score from a well-worked corner, but dragged his shot wide.
PSG continued to dominate possession in the second half, with Warren Zaire-Emery, the 17-year-old wonderkid who’s flourishing in Ligue 1 this season, doubling his side’s lead in the 58th minute.
Zaire-Emery slipped the ball to Dembele at the edge of the box, before receiving it back from a smart back-heel pass. The midfielder then struck the ball sweetly with the outside of his boot, completely wrong footing Lecomte.
Dembele was involved again in the third goal, playing a one-two with Hakimi on the right flank. Hakimi managed to find Vitinha on the edge of the penalty box, with the 23-year-old firmly striking the ball into the back of the net.
Mbappe nearly pulled off the assist of the season so far, flicking the ball on for Goncalo Ramos to score in the dying minutes of the match. But the goal was ruled out after Ramos, on loan from Benfica, was flagged offside.
PSG’s dominant victory was reflected in the match statistics, with the new league leaders boasting an impressive 73% of possession.
Next up for PSG are AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League group stage, which can be watched live on TNT Sports.
