The big Swede fed Paul Pogba to finish, but the ball appeared to strike Zlatan’s arm and he admitted as much after the game.
"Could be, could be," Ibrahimovic said. "I tried to pass to Paul as I saw he was free and I think it touched my hand first then my stomach. I will have to see the images."
Pogba was also in an offside position for the goal and Manchester United were fortunate to keep 11 players on the pitch following Marcus Rojo’s two-footed challenge on Wilfried Zaha, leading to opposition manager Alan Pardew bemoaning his team’s misfortune.
"The first goal was a call the linesman should have seen," Pardew said.
"I thought it was offside even from where I was standing. He refereed the game aggressively. He gave a lot of fouls and it could have flowed a bit better."
