Oldham expect HMRC to retract winding-up order after settling tax debt

It had been reported that HMRC had issued a winding-up petition earlier this month for an outstanding sum of around £20,000.

But the Sky Bet League One club insist they have already paid money owed to HMRC and have denied 'early bird' season ticket offers had been made to help pay their debts.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Oldham Athletic would like to assure fans that recent events relating to our position with HMRC have been incorrectly reported and we are indeed completely up to date with all our liabilities relating to the club.

"The liability to HMRC referred to in the winding up order had already been paid in full and we are expecting a formal retraction from HMRC in the next edition of the London Gazette.

"There is no secret that the approaching summer months for football clubs can cause cash flow issues as there is virtually no income in May, June and July whilst the running costs of the club are as much as £750,000.

"However, we would like to make it 100 per cent clear that under no circumstances were the season tickets put on sale early to help pay any outstanding monies to HMRC."

The Latics are currently 19th in the table, three points above the relegation zone, after a run of just one defeat in nine league matches under manager John Sheridan, who replaced Steve Robinson in January.
