England must beat Scotland to stand any chance of reaching the Women's Nations League finals. Wiegman's side are Great Britain's nominated nation to qualify for next year's Olympic Games in Paris via the Nations League. The integrity of the fixture has been called into question with Scotland players able to represent Team GB, should they gain a place.

'No way they are going to give away this game' - Wiegman on England v Scotland showdown

England manager Sarina Wiegman says there is “no way” Scotland will go easy on her team in their must-win Women's Nations League match at Hampden Park on Tuesday - despite the result affecting Team GB’s Olympic hopes.
The Lionesses were nominated as the qualifying team for Great Britain for next year’s Games in Paris and need to reach the Nations League finals in order to stay in with a chance of achieving qualification.
However, England are currently second in Group A1 so need to beat Scotland and hope the Netherlands - who are top of the table - fail to win at home to Belgium.
If the Netherlands win, England can still progress, but they would need to beat Scotland by three more goals than the Dutch manage against Belgium.
The jeopardy surrounding the fixture comes from the fact that a number of the Scotland squad will also be hoping to be a part of Team GB’s squad should they qualify.
Put simply, if Scotland were to win, their players would be ending their own hopes of appearing at an Olympic Games.
England got the better of the Netherlands in their last outing, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Wembley.
With such an unusual situation facing the nations involved in the final group stage matches, Netherlands manager Andries Jonker is among those to have questioned the integrity of the Nations League, but Wiegman is adamant there will be nothing untoward about the clash between the rival home nations.
"I understand the conversations about it. If you have seen our group, seen the Scotland players and know the history, there is no way they are going to give away this game,” she told reporters at a press conference on Monday.
“It will not be the case. This is the first time we've played the Nations League. This is not an easy solution. It's about fair play, everyone wants to win.”
"I've never been in a situation like this. We know what we have to do and so do the Netherlands and Belgium.”
"We want to keep the nil and go for the attack and when we do lose the ball, we have to win it back quickly. There is such a rivalry that we know that's not going to be the case [Scotland rolling over]. We saw how they played against us in England,” Wiegman said.
With victory crucial, and goal margins potentially being vital, Wiegman said she wants her players to be brave and look to score goals from the outset but in a controlled manner.
“I hope they [the players] go wild from the first minute but you don't want to get erratic, we want to be controlled, but we really want to play our best game and create chances and get a lot of players up front.”
Scotland captain Rachel Corsie says she has been unhappy with the build-up to the match being dominated by questions about whether her team are fully committed to winning the match.
"Truthfully, I think it’s so disrespectful," she said. "I think it’s absolutely outrageous to question anyone's integrity."
Scotland are bottom of the group with just two points and have already been relegated from the top tier of the Women's Nations League.
They drew 1-1 with Belgium in their last outing, with Erin Cuthbert scoring their goal.

How can England reach the Nations League finals?

  • England MUST beat Scotland. Any other result will see them eliminated.
  • If England beat Scotland, and the Netherlands do not win against Belgium, England will progress as Group A1 winners
  • If England AND the Netherlands win, England need a better goal difference than the Dutch. England are currently on +1 and the Netherlands are on +4
