Koeman would welcome Rooney to Everton

Ronald Koeman has said he would love to have Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney at Everton, says a story in the Mirror. Rooney has been dropped from the United first eleven by Jose Mourinho, and has recently lost his place in the England international game. He's just four games from breaking United's scoring record, but it no longer appears certain that he'll be around long enough to claim the record. Koeman said: "Even if one time there is a possibility that Rooney is an option for Everton, I'd say 'yes, please'."
Paper Round's view: When asked the question about any player, a manager has to tread the line between praising and poaching. Unless, of course, they're looking to start arguments. Koeman has given a sensible answer, that of course he'd like the England captain and an Everton supporter in his team. Whether he's being serious about his interest or not is moot for now - there's no indication that Rooney would consider a move to a smaller club in England, when there's much more money to be made in America or China, with much less pressure.

Mourinho suggests there's no plan to sell Rooney

Apparently contradicting the recent rumours, and interest from Koeman, is Mourinho saying that he wants to keep Rooney, according to the Daily Mail. Mourinho said: "I know he can, I know he's a top player, I know he can play at the top level. I cannot make this kind of mental exercise of what is going to happen at 32, 3, 4, 5. I can't say that. What I can say is that he's a very good player, he's a very important player for us, he's going nowhere. We like him, he likes us."
Paper Round's view: This is not necessarily what the Daily Mail suggests it is. The quotes are full of praise for a player that Mourinho has dropped, but who can't leave until January at the earliest. Mourinho would be a fool to start touting his most influential player around to other teams with months until any deal might be arranged. The most interesting thing to note is that Mourinho makes a point of not predicting what will happen when he gets to 32 and beyond - it is not a long term endorsement of keeping Rooney.

Pochettino didn't call to congratulate Ranieri

The Daily Star leads with Mauricio Pochettino revealing he did not phone Claudio Ranieri to congratulate him on winning the Premier League. Spurs finished third, but were the last challengers to fall in the title race against Leicester City when their season imploded against Chelsea. Pochettino told a press conference: "I never phoned him. I relayed my message in teh press conference after the Chelsea game. My first sentence was to congratulate them and to send a message through the TV."
Paper Round's view: Pochettino remains one of the league's most underrated spiky managers. With his obvious discipline with his squad, and his tendency to use blunt answers when something more cushioned might be expected, it won't be a huge surprise that he hasn't spoken to Ranieri. It fits with his profile that he simply returned back to work to improve his own team. It is unlikely that Ranieri will care, or retaliate in any way, because he has a Premier League winner's medal and Pochettino does not.

England and Bangladesh both wobble with the bat

Both Bangladesh and England passed up chances to take the advantage in the second test match. First Bangladesh started brilliantly, only to pull off a startling collapse, and then England's top order managed to fall apart again. This morning England were all out for 244, to lead by just 24.
Paper Round's view: England are suffering with a brittleness in their top order, and perhaps are ready to start making a transition to a younger side lead for a couple more years by Alastair Cook. Taking Gareth Batty on tour was a sensible move, but it does suggest there's no great certainty about where the next core of players is coming from in the short-term future. Zafar Ansari has his chance in the second test.
