If Wayne Rooney thought his status in the game would earn him some respect in America, he would have been thinking again on Sunday night.

England's all-time record goalscorer was playing for DC United away at New York Red Bulls in MLS - a match that his side went on to lose 1-0.

But it was events before the game which would have left Rooney unhappy.

The Red Bulls fans unveiled a tifo which replaced the eagle's head in the DC United with Rooney's head.

And the caption, 'bald eagles: an endangered species' left little to the imagination.

Which seems a bit harsh: after all, Rooney has spent a fair sum on rebuilding his hairline and it's looking in quite decent shape at the moment.
