Benfica playmaker Simao Sabrosa will not play again this season after suffering a knee injury.
Simao has ruptured the meniscus in his left knee and requires surgery which will rule him out of the rest of the campaign. He should be ready to train again in a month's time.
Simao, an important player for the Lisbon-based club, missed the weekend derby against Sporting with pain in the joint. The match was drawn 1-1 and they continue to trail their second-placed arch rivals by a point with three matches remaining.
Porto are top of the Superliga, four points ahead of Benfica.
He had a similar problem in the same area of his body in 2002.
