Leicester were unable to capitalise on Tom Huddlestone’s red card 20 minutes from time as Hull held them to a desperately frustrating 0-0 draw at King Power Stadium.
The Tigers had the better of a nervous first-half, with Nikica Jelavic failing to connect with a shot from six-yards out after Elmohamady had squared the ball to him.
The Croatian went close again with a header from a corner on the hour mark before the visitors were reduced to ten when Huddlestone was shown red.
Having already been booked, the midfielder had to go for tripping Vardy from behind just outside the penalty area giving Leicester hope of a late winner.
The goal never came, however, with Hull going closer to a winner when Abel Hernandez went through on goal after a quick freekick only to see his low shot brilliantly saved by Mark Schwarzer.
KEY MOMENTS
20’ – CHANCE: What a miss by Hull! A wonderful clipped ball into the area from Huddlestone gets Elmohamady clear on the right. The Egyptian sidefoots it across for box for Jelavic to tap home but the Croatian falls at the vital moment and lands on the ball rather than knocking it in.
33’ – CHANCE: Close for Leicester! Mahrez bends a wonderful cross from the right towards the far post and it looks as if Kramaric will connect but he can't quite reach it.
61’ – CHANCE: Jelavic goes close again! He towers above everyone else to connect with Huddlestone's ball into the box but it goes over the bar.
71’ – RED CARD! Schlupp tackles Elmohamady brilliantly and gives the ball to Vardy, who drives towards the area only to be tripped from behind by Huddlestone. The midfielder has already been booked and has to walk. Hull are down to 10.
89’ – CHANCE: Magnificent save from Schwarzer. N'Doye wins a freekcik and plays it quickly to get Hernandez through on goal, but the striker's low strike it blocked.
KEY STATS:
There have been six red cards in the last seven league meetings between the two teams.
Leicester City have scored just three goals in their last nine Premier League games at King Power Stadium.
Hull have failed to score in eight of their last 11 Premier League away matches.
TALKING POINT
Are Leicester City doomed to relegation? There was a definite sense that today’s game was a must-win for the Foxes and that pressure got to them. Nigel Pearson’s side are seven points behind Sunderland, who were humbled 0-4 at home to Aston Villa, and they do have some favourable fixtures to come, but right now it’s hard to see where their goals will come from.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Michael Dawson (Hull City): No contest here. The former Tottenham man captained Hull brilliantly by winning nearly all of his aerial duals and blocking Leicester out when they did threaten. He was unfairly booked late in the second-half but that should not detract from an outstanding defensive display.
