Are Liverpool really that desperate for a spark up front that they'd consider trying to re-live Chelsea flop Fernando Torres' glory days at Anfield? That and the rest of today's gossip from the newspapers.

Fernando Torres back at Anfield? The most interesting report from today’s papers suggests Spanish striker Fernando Torres could end up back at Liverpool. Torres’ stock has plummeted at Chelsea and loan side Milan no longer want him at the club. The Daily Star claim Brendan Rodgers could try to recruit the 30-year-old in January.
Paper Round’s view: Now this would be the story of the window, if it happened. Would lightning strike twice at Liverpool for Torres? Unfortunately, the Star aren’t exactly the most reliable of sources but with Torres now linked with returns to both of his successful former stints, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, perhaps that is the only way to get the best back out of the misfit forward.
Mancini to swoop for former defender: The Daily Mirror believe Manchester City centre-back Matija Nastasic could be reunited with Roberto Mancini at Inter Milan. Mancini brought the Serbian to the Etihad Stadium and has now returned to Inter for a second stint in charge.
Paper Round’s view: Nastasic hasn’t made an impact in England just yet but at just 21 has plenty of time. Perhaps a reunion with the manager who first saw his potential to shine at a top level is what will help him step up to the next level.
Arsenal and Liverpool to miss out on World Cup winner: Metro are reporting that Christoph Kramer, Borussia Moenchengladbach's 23-year-old German midfielder who has been linked with a move to the Premier League, has instead decided to remain in the Bundesliga.
Paper Round's view: Kramer, while a talented player with plenty of additional promise for the future, is not exactly the biggest name on the January shopping lists of Arsenal or Liverpool. However, both sides could really do with a positive development in a transfer pursuit - especially when it comes to the middle of the park. It's a demoralising blow even if not the most high-profile of snubs.
New deals for Terry and Hazard: Chelsea captain John Terry and their Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard are both set to sign contract extensions at Stamford Bridge, say the Daily Express and Daily Mail.. While veteran Terry is poised to merely receive an offer of a 12-month extension to his current terms, Hazard will be offered a bumper improvement worth £200,000 a week until 2019.
Paper Round's view: You cannot fault Chelsea for wanting to tie down the services of Hazard, while Terry was always going to outlast fellow stalwarts such as Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole. If you support the Blues, however, you will surely hope that the duration of JT's additional year at the club will see Chelsea looking to really bring through the likes of Kurt Zouma to replace him, as well as probably sign at least one more top young centre-back. Having Terry around a little longer will help the transition.
