Morrison scores wonder goal as West Ham rout Spurs

West Ham secured their first away win of the season, scoring three second-half goals to claim a shock 3-0 win over Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Winston Reid poked the visitors ahead with little over 20 minutes to play – netting the Hammers’ first away goal of the campaign. Ricardo Vaz Te then doubled West Ham’s lead before a splendid Ravel Morrison goal wrapped up a surprising victory.
Though West Ham have struggled on the road this season, Sam Allardyce’s team played with confidence during the opening quarter of an hour and looked the better side. Spurs soon found their form, though, passing the ball well but were unable to break down the resolute West Ham defence – James Tomkins performing solidly at the back.
The finest chance of the half came from a well-worked West Ham free-kick – Mark Noble scooping the ball over the wall into the path of Kevin Nolan who volleyed agonisingly wide from a tight angle.
Spurs continued to search for an opener during the second half but were pegged back when Reid was able to poke home a Stewart Downing corner.
Vaz Te then took advantage of some slack defending to go clean through on goal and rather fortuitously find the back of the net. Morrison added a sensational third late on, bursting out of his own half to skip past a number of challenges and lift the ball over the Spurs keeper.
KEY MOMENTS
PRE-MATCH: With Andy Carroll still sidelined, do West Ham have enough going forward to trouble Tottenham? Mohamed Diame plays in a more attacking roll, supporting Vaz Te as the Hammers go in search of their first away goal of the season.
13’ – CHANCE: Townsend again gets the better of Rat down the right and is able to pull the ball back into the path of Paulinho on the edge of the West Ham box. The Brazilian’s first touch sets up the shot but the Spurs man leans back and sends the ball over the bar.
43’ – CHANCE: SO CLOSE!! Noble scoops the ball up and over the wall and into the path of Nolan from the free kick. The former Newcastle man sends a volley on goal from a tight angle and beats Lloris but has to watch the ball roll agonisingly wide of the post
66’ – GOAL: West Ham score. Downing’s corner is met by Reid whose initial effort is blocked by Nolan on the line. The defender reacts quickest, though, poking home from six yards to put the visitors ahead.
72’ – GOAL: West Ham grab a second. Vaz Te surely wraps up the victory. Noble picks up the ball on the halfway line and sends Vaz Te through on goal, with Walker out of position. The striker’s attempt at goal is saved by the legs of Lloris but it ricochets back of Vaz Te and into the net.
79’ – GOAL: Morrison adds a third for West Ham. Astonishing. The midfielder bursts from his own half, skipping past the challenges of Dembele, Dawson and Vertonghen to break into the penalty area and clip the ball over Lloris. Great goal.

TALKING POINT
Are Tottenham really top-four contenders? AVB's side had started the season tremendously and a win against West Ham would have taken them level with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. They looked devoid of any creativity against the Hammers, however, and AVB's refusal to change it up when things aren't going Tottenham's way could see them come unstuck in the future.

MAN OF THE MATCH
James Tomkins (West Ham): It was difficult to pick one man out of the West Ham side, but Tomkins was excellent all game. The defender was solid in the heart of the West Ham defence, putting in a number of great blocks throughout the match and won every challenge in the air.
