The 42-year-old has joined on a one and a half year deal and is likely to go straight into the team with regular number one with Kasper Schmeichel absent with a foot injury.
Schwarzer was third choice at the Blues behind Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech and had not played for the west London club this season.
The former Australia international spent 18 months with Chelsea and recently attracted praise from Jose Mourinho for his input at the club.
"As a goalkeeper, when we needed (Schwarzer), he was there for us, and as a person and a professional he was an amazing guy in our group," Mourinho said.
"On behalf of myself, my staff and my players I want to say we are going to miss the big guy and we wish him all the best in his new life at Leicester."

This deal will ensure Schwarzer is still playing when he is 43 - the same age as Brad Friedel is now - and it's good to see two of the Premier League's senior citizens defying Old Father Time. He may have only made four starts in the Premier League since joining the club in 2013 but he has played his part for the Blues. Does this mean Petr Cech will be remaining as deputy to Thibaut Courtois? Not if reports linking him with an imminent move to Roma are correct.
