The left-back struggled in his first season at Old Trafford following his £27 million move from Southampton as injuries denied him a consistent spell in the team.
There were also murmurings – not least from his manager, Louis van Gaal – that he was unfit after coming back from England’s dismal World Cup campaign in Brazil.
However, he’s started all three of United’s matches this season and turned in some impressive performances.

“It’s the best I’ve felt in a long while,” he told MUTV.
“I’m aiming to keep putting in good performances and to keep my fitness up. Hopefully no injuries will get in my way.
“As a team we have maybe not met our standards yet, but we have meetings about it and evaluate our game.
“We feel good and hopefully will continue to get better and better – I think we can do that.”
Shaw also refuted suggestions that a failure to settle was behind his disappointing 2014/15 campaign, although he admitted he was even more stable in Manchester this season.
“It wasn’t that I didn’t feel settled last year, but now I feel really at home here,” he added.
“I get on really well with all the players and staff and I’m working really hard in training too - so that’s a good thing. I feel really happy and am positive about how things are going."
