The 41-year-old Finn has been out of work since he left Brighton in December and has previously managed Bayer Leverkusen.
Former Liverpool captain Hyypia has been heavily linked with the role since departure of Colin Pascoe last week and the Finn has confirmed that he would be interested in the role.
“It would be great to work for a club which I love,” Hyppia told the Guardian.
“My rise in management was rapid and I have been thinking a lot about things while I have been out. If there were no interesting opportunities as a manager, then I would be ready to be an assistant.
“That sort of role would give me a lot of experience. It wouldn’t be a problem for me. I feel ready to go into football again. You look at yourself and I am enthusiastic about getting back into the game.”

This could actually suit all parties involved. Hyppia gets a soft landing back into management following his travails at Brighton while Rodgers gets an undoubtedly talented coach. Also, his appointment would represent quite the coup for Liverpool’s hierarchy as Hyppia retains cult status with the Anfield club after his ten year career at the club, where he made 310 appearances.
