Rooney’s performances this season have come under increasing scrutiny with United losing their past three matches under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The captain’s displays have been regularly panned, with Rooney moving into a deep midfield role from the No. 10 position for the weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Watford and struggling again.
Red Issue, which is no longer in print but retains a vibrant online presence, conducted a poll of readers which landed decisively on one side of the Rooney issue.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News:
An overwhelming 99.08 per cent of Manchester United supporters on the RedIssue Sanctuary believe Wayne Rooney should be dropped by Jose Mourinho. In a poll titled: 'How do you solve a problem like Wayne Rooney?', a measly 0.92 per cent suggested Mourinho perseveres with the United captain, who performed wretchedly once again in the defeat at Watford.
Another United fan site, Red Café, also saw overwhelming support for Rooney to be dropped by United as its readers concluded that Rooney was “done at the required level”.
