Newcastle have been in talks with the Serbian international for several weeks but it appears a deal has at last been agreed.
The 20-year-old will cost the Magpies around £13m and is expected to sign a five-year contract in the North East. He will be the second signing under new head coach Steve McClaren after Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum joined from PSV.
Mitrovic scored 30 goals in 78 matches for Anderlecht during a two-year spell in Belgium, having joined them in a club-record €5m deal from Partizan Belgrade.
The transfer has looked in jeopardy at times but Newcastle have finally got their man, fending off strong interest from Porto and Roma for the striker.
It's believed the club are still keen on bringing in QPR striker Charlie Austin as they look to totally revamp their forward line.
Should they get both of their targets, it's believed that current number nine Papiss Cisse could be made available for around £10m
