Arsenal turn on the style to claim silverware with win over Everton

Arsenal produced a polished performance in the heat of the Singapore evening to beat Everton 3-1 and lift the Barclays Asia Trophy for the first time.

A record crowd of 52,107 supporters turned up to watch and were rewarded with a slick opening goal, a lovely through ball from Santi Cazorla finding Theo Walcott, who clipped the ball past Joel Robles.

Arsenal debutant Petr Cech had little to do but was forced into a fine save from Steven Naismith before the break, touching his header onto the bar although the Scot was ruled just offside.

Cazorla added a second shortly after the break before turning provider for the excellent Mesut Ozil to put the result beyond doubt.

Ross Barkley gave Everton a glimmer of hope by rifling in a fine goal past Cech but Arsenal were deserved winners on the night.

58’ – GOAL! Arsenal 2-0 Everton: Arsenal take a short corner to Cazorla, who twists and turns before firing low past a statuesque Robles.

62’ – GOAL! Arsenal 3-0 Everton: Cazorla turns provider, setting up Ozil who puts the game beyond Everton.

75’ – GOAL! Arsenal 3-1 Everton: A mistake from Oxlade-Chamberlain gives the ball to Barkley, who takes a couple of strides towards goal before firing a powerful shot past Cech and into the top corner.

This was the seventh Asia Trophy final and a record crowd of close to 52,107 for the final.

Petr Cech makes his first appearance for Arsenal.

Arsenal are the first team in red to lift the trophy.

Fatigue a problem for Everton? Roberto Martinez opted to play more of his side who played in the semi-final and many seemed to struggle with the pace.
