Independent – Arsenal ‘fear rejection’ as they suffer Vardy wait

The signs don’t look good for Arsenal in their pursuit of the second top scorer in the Premier League in 2015-16, according to the Independent. Vardy was expected to make a decision on Monday morning before getting on the plane to France with England but that has not materialised, with Arsenal now having major doubts as they wait for a sign from within the England camp.
“Jamie Vardy has been told to focus solely on England’s Euro 2016 campaign and shelve talks over a potential £20m move to Arsenal with Arsene Wenger fearing rejection from the Leicester City forward. Vardy checked into England’s Chantilly hotel on Monday afternoon after failing to resolve his future before boarding the flight to Paris and Arsenal are now concerned that a counter offer from the Premier League champions will persuade the player to turn down a move to the Emirates.
With Roy Hodgson maintaining his stance of refusing to allow player representatives into the team’s hotel base in France, Arsenal face an agonising wait to discover whether Vardy will accept the offer on the table.

Telegraph – Leicester team-mates contact Vardy and tell him to stay

Matt Law has an interesting line in the Telegraph this morning as he lays out the attempts of Vardy’s team-mates to convince him to stay at the club and have a crack at the Champions League.
Jamie Vardy has been begged to turn down a move to Arsenal and stay at Leicester City by a number of his title-winning team-mates. Wes Morgan, Robert Huth and Kasper Schmeichel have all personally contacted Vardy since Friday, when Arsenal activated the £20 million release clause in his Leicester contract, to try to convince him to stay at the King Power Stadium. Coupled with Leicester’s counter bid of a new contract, the words of his team-mates have clearly had an effect on Vardy as he agonises over a switch to Arsenal.

Daily Mirror – Arsenal fear Vardy will accept new deal at Leicester

The Mirror also expect disappointment for Arsene Wenger, namely because Leicester tabled an improved offer for their star striker on Monday, and that could be enough to sway him. The offer is said to be in the region of £100,000-per week. Vardy signed a new deal in February worth around £60,000-per week.
Vardy, 29, had promised the Gunners' boss an answer on Monday, when he flew out with England for Euro 2016 duty in France. But he did not get in contact, leaving the Londoners fearing the worst. Boss Wenger, who had offered to meet the player’s £20million buy-out clause, believes he would have accepted Arsenal’s offer by now if he was keen to move to the Emirates. Instead, his silence was deafening.

Daily Express – West Ham chief slams ‘potty’ Vardy bid

The Express carries quotes sourced from the West Ham website, where co-owner David Sullivan reveals they would have been in the market for Vardy had Arsenal not activated his buyout clause. Clearly Sullivan believes Vardy is not worth the reported £20m transfer fee and £140,000-per week wage packet Arsenal are said to have put on the table.
It was reported that one of those targets was Jamie Vardy, and while it is true that we would loved to have had him, the numbers being talked about in a potential move to Arsenal show that the market is going potty. It is safe to say that signing him would have smashed our current wage structure and we are determined to buy players with good value in this mad market.
