The Professional Footballers’ Association has announced the six-man shortlist for the Player of the Year, with Leicester players dominating the shortlist.
Leicester’s improbable run to the league title has been rewarded with three nominations, with Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante all shortlisted.
The Leicester contingent account for half of the six-man shortlist and represents a remarkable turnaround for the East Midlands club who were still rooted to the bottom of the league this day last year.
Joining the Foxes trio on the list are Tottenham’s Harry Kane, West Ham’s Dimitri Payet and Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
Kane, who has fired 22 Premier League goals this season, is also in the reckoning for the Young Player of the Year, with Dele Alli, Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland, Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho and Everton pair Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku also nominated.
Ji So-Yun is once again in the running for the women’s award, going up against Chelsea team-mates Hedvig Lindahl and Gemma Davison, Sunderland’s Beth Mead and Manchester City's Izzy Christiansen.
Mead is also amongst the Women’s Young Player of the Year nominees, along with Arsenal’s Danielle Carter, Manchester City pair Nikita Parris and Keira Walsh, and Chelsea's Hannah Blundell.
The winners will be announced on April 24.
