Leicester salvage point after Jamie Vardy red card sparks collapse v West Ham

A thrilling, ridiculous game at the King Power Stadium left Leicester needing eight more points to be certain of winning the most unlikely of titles, after Leandro Ulloa's injury-time penalty earned them a dramatic 2-2 draw against West Ham.

Jamie Vardy found himself at the centre of a major controversy, scoring his 22nd Premier League goal of the season before being red-carded for diving. Ten-man Leicester suffered a late collapse before snatching a point with the last kick of the game.

Leicester took the lead with a superb breakaway goal, whizzing from one end to other before Vardy made a difficult finish look easy.

Booked in the first half, Vardy was then sent-off in the second, appearing to deliberately tangle his legs with those of Angelo Ogbonna, and the flow of the game changed. West Ham started to pin Leicester back, and eventually the pressure told, Wes Morgan conceding a penalty that Andy Carroll dispatched.

When Aaron Cresswell's glorious drive put the visitors ahead, there seemed no way that Leicester could come back, but in typical Carroll and West Ham style, Jeffrey Schlupp was barged over in the box and Ulloa kept his nerve to equalise. What a game.

Tottenham Hotspur can close the gap at the top to five points if they beat Stoke on Monday.

When making a decision, how sure do referees need to be that they’re getting it right and who should get the benefit of the doubt? Jamie Vardy definitely tangled up his legs in those of Angelo Ogbonna, but quite whether he did it on purpose, or at least, quite whether there was no simultaneous fouling, is hard to deduce even on replay. Likewise, Robert Huth escaped with a foul in the box before Leicester’s first goal, Wes Morgan was later penalised for similar, before Angelo Ogobnna was not. It would be interesting to hear Jon Moss explain his decisions.

Cheikhou Kouyate was absolutely everywhere, his presence, anticipation and power firing an outstanding West Ham performance.

2’ - Oh I say! What a save! What a general happening! Payet whips in the cross, Kouyate heads powerfully and sets off to celebrate - but Schmeichel fingernails it onto the near post and it bounceds across the line, teasing, tantalising. Kouyate is triumphant, but it then hits the other post - and the keeper pounces.

28’ - This is fairly feisty by modern standards, and all the more enjoyable for it - so, of course, the referee decides to intervene. Vardy is a tad late on Kouyate, on halfway and on the touchline. For this, he is booked.

29’ - GOAL! Leicester City 1-0 West Ham United. West Ham waste a free-kick into the box - well actually, that's strong. Kouyate gets a header on it, which Schmeichel collects and immediately, he sets Mahrez nashing away down the right. He then holds the ball up well and lays infield to Kante, who motors on and finds Vardy, left side of the box. He could shoot first time, but instead he drags the ball wide of his man before absolutely panelling a shot across Adrian intro the far corner. Brilliant, superb, outstanding, breathtaking behaviour!

57’ - JAMIE VARDY IS SENT-OFF! He shows a fantastic turn of pace to absolutely burn up Ogbonna on the outside but then tangles their legs up together - probably deliberately, but it's hard to be certain, even after a replay. Jon Moss races over, the crowd cheer anticipating a penalty, and instead a second yellow card arrives; played the drama beautifully there. Hold tight!

83' - PENALTY TO WEST HAM! They win a corner on the right, Morgan gets caught the wrong side of Reid, tugs him back, and the ref points to the spot!

84' - GOAL! Leicester City 1-1 West Ham United. Carroll smashes low and left, Schmeichel dives right, and we have some moments to live, right now!

86' - GOAL! Leicester City 1-2 West Ham United. No they cannot! Antonio scoots around the outside down the right, digs out a cross, and it's cleared - but only to the edge of the box, where Cresswell chests down and absolutely annihilates a jazzer into the far top corner. What a turnaround!

90+4' - PENALTY LEICESTER! Schlupp rinses into the box and Carroll bumps him over! What was he thinking!

GOAL! Leicester City 2-2 West Ham United. Adrian encroached like naebody's business but Ulloa wasn't arsed, waiting for him to dive left before clipping high and right. That is so West Ham! What a game!

Jamie Vardy now has 22 goals for the season, level with Harry Kane in the race for the golden boot.

Vardy's suspension will end a run of 47 consecutive Premier League appearances dating back to 10 February 2015.

Leicester went 574 minutes without conceding a goal - from Craig Gardner’s effort for West Brom on 1st March to Andy Carrolll’s 84th minute penalty this afternoon.

Leandro Ulloa’s penalty was the 11th that Leicester have won this season, the most in the league, and the ninth that they have scored, also the most in the league.
