Manchester United's Guillermo Varela joins Eintracht Frankfurt on loan

Manchester United defender Guillermo Varela has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

The Uruguayan defender played in the 2-0 victory win over Wigan Athletic last weekend, in Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of Manchester United, when he came on as a substitute.

However, the 23-year-old did not travel to China for the pre-season tour with the move to Germany in the pipeline and has struggled for game time while at Old Trafford.

He made his United debut in December last year but only started 10 times under former manager Louis van Gaal.

It is the second time he will have had a season away from Old Trafford after spending a season with Real Madrid’s Castilla in 2013.
