Paper Round: Arsenal move for Sturridge, Giggs to quit United if Mourinho gets top job

The Mirror are reporting that Arsenal will move for Daniel Sturridge in the summer, a move that is likely to set them back £30 million. The report says Arsene Wenger is finally ready to make changes to his line-up, including purchasing Sturridge to fill the gap of a top class striker at the club. As Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Oliver Giroud never really settled in the front man position this season, it's reportedly Wenger's priority to buy a noted goalscorer.

Paper Round's view: Daniel Sturridge at his best is a great footballer. There's no debating this, as he was every bit as important to Liverpool's doomed title bid as Luis Suarez. However, his injuries should make Arsenal re-consider. Players get injured during the course of a season, that's football. But it's so consistent for Arsenal to have players from their best line-up injury prone and missing lots of football. They don't need another frustrating headache with Sturridge, so they should be finding someone else who's a little more durable.

Also in the Mirror, Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs will reportedly quit the club if Jose Mourinho ascends to the top job in the summer. The report says Giggs has been warned by fellow Class of 92 members to quit Old Trafford if Mourinho takes over to find a senior management role elsewhere. Giggs reportedly has had no guarantee from executive vice chairman Ed Woodward he'll have an assistant job at the club once Van Gaal leaves the club.

Paper Round's view: After stints under both David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal, Ryan Giggs is ready to step out on his own. He should probably aim lower than former team mate Gary Neville, who's doomed bid with Valencia has set his managerial career back a few years. Considering the potential levels of volatility under Mourinho, it's not worth hanging around just to pick up the pieces when he's gone. Make your own way, Giggsy.

Claudio Ranieri is planning to make a double swoop for Watford's Troy Deeney and Crystal Palace's Yannick Bolasie, according to the Sun. The report says both Deeney and Bolasie are valued on the open market at around £20 million, with Leicester potentially facing some competition from Arsenal, as they were interested in the Watford striker Deeney earlier in the season. Ranieri is looking to not only bolster his squad for the club's Premier League title defence, but is planning to make it bigger for Champions League duties.

Paper Round's view: The reason why Leicester's recruiting style works is that is entirely left field. Most in this position would invest in promising and exotic youth for future returns, where as Ranieri wants experienced talent who's been exposed to the Premier League. Deeney and Bolasie may not seem like much, but putting them in a team where they get less attention from the opposition could pay off greatly for Leicester.

Chelsea could be making a play for Southampton's Graziano Pelle, according to the Sun. The report says Antonio Conte is a fan of Pelle, due to the period in which they worked together for the Italian national team. The Blues will consider offering Southampton a fee of £8 million, as Pelle was dropped from the line-up against Manchester City last weekend and is set for talks with the South Coast club in the summer over his future. Pelle has one year left on his contract and the Saints will be making a decision to either make some money off a transfer or keep the striker.

Paper Round's view: No one's going to pretend Pelle's going to be the number one frontman, but coming off the bench will make him a threat. His work rate has tailed off this season, but bringing him on late in games while the opposition's defence is tired could pay dividends. He isn't done with just yet and can offer Chelsea something if they play their cards right.
