Phil Jones ‘out for three weeks with mild thrombosis’

Phil Jones will be out for at least three weeks with mild thrombosis, according to Manchester United.
The defender was left out of the squad for the 1-0 victory against Tottenham and will miss the Premier League matches against Aston Villa and Newcastle as well as the Champions League qualifying legs with Club Brugge.
The 23-year-old’s thrombosis – when clots form in a blood vessel – will be bad news for United manager Louis van Gaal, who will want a more settled defence this season.
Jones had started all four pre-season friendlies alongside Daley Blind but his place against Spurs was taken by Chris Smalling.
