Harry Kane scored three unanswered goals at Turf Moor, arresting Tottenham’s poor away form and allowing the Londoners to leapfrog both Burnley and Arsenal in the Premier League table.
Spurs caused problems for Burnley’s back line from the outset and made the breakthrough after just seven minutes, when Dele Alli was felled in the area by Kevin Long.
The Irishman - who replaced the suspended James Tarkowski - appeared to make minimal contact, but enough for referee Michael Oliver to point to the spot. Harry Kane duly converted for his 51st goal in all competitions for the calendar year of 2017.
Alli’s penalty win did little to help his popularity among the Turf Moor faithful, who were vocally upset by a lunge on Charlie which earned the England midfielder a yellow card.
Tottenham dominated possession and had several chances to extend their lead, with Kane finding the side netting from close range and Moussa Sissoko forcing a magnificent double save from Nick Pope at the conclusion of a rapid Spurs counter attack.
Son and Alli came close to doubling the advantage early in the second half, but it was Kane who made it 2-0 by calmly slotting through Pope’s legs, following a brilliant through-ball from Sissoko.

The England striker completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later, with another cool finish after exchanging passes with Alli on the edge of the box.

Burnley pushed for a consolation, but were ultimately unable to breach the Tottenham defence. Prior to this game, the Clarets had only conceded three goals at home all season.
Sean Dyche's side slip below Tottenham into seventh place, after the Londoners secured their first league win on the road since beating Huddersfield’s three months ago.
TALKING POINT: Will Tottenham secure their top four status?
Spurs moved into fifth place in the league with this win - and maintaining their Champions League status will likely be a priority. But which other 'top six' side will ceded their spot to the Lilywhites?
MAN OF THE MATCH: Harry Kane
The evening belonged to Kane, who scored as many goals as any other team conbined at Turf Moor this season. The England striker was a constant threat, who worked hard in the build-up to his goals.
