As the Premier League season draws to a close, we here at Eurosport have voted for our Team of the Year, with some surprise omissions. Sorry, Eden Hazard…

Firstly, let’s take a look at the PFA Team of the Year from the 2017-18 season:
  • David de Gea (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Manchester City), Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City), Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham), Marcos Alonso (Chelsea), David Silva (Manchester City), Christian Eriksen (Tottenham), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
Five Manchester City players featured in the XI as they stormed to the Premier League title with 100 points, while Mohamed Salah was the sole Liverpool representative after a record-breaking first season at Anfield.
Salah still remains in the hunt for the Premier League Golden Boot this season, but he misses out on our Team of the Year.

In fact, there is just one player from the PFA 2017-18 list which makes our team, and this is City striker Sergio Aguero.
So we’ll dispense with the suspense and reveal our team now…

Goalkeeper – Alisson

For his efforts in transforming Liverpool from top-four challengers to title contenders, Alisson Becker gets the nod in goal. The Brazilian has kept a league-high 17 clean sheets so far as the Reds look to end their 29-year wait for league glory.

Defenders – Wan-Bissaka, Van Dijk, Laporte, Robertson

Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson were two unanimous choices for our Team of the Year. Van Dijk has been pivotal for Liverpool in the heart of their defence, while Robertson has emerged as one of the best left-backs in Europe, having recorded nine assists in the league so far this season.
Their team-mate Trent Alexander-Arnold narrowly missed out at right-back, with Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka receiving one more vote after a breakthrough campaign at the London club. Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte features alongside Van Dijk.
Honourable mentions: Matt Doherty (Wolves), Fabian Schar (Newcastle)

Midfielders – Fernandinho, Pogba, Bernardo Silva

Fernandinho is the third of four unanimous picks, with the Manchester City midfielder proving a rock in the middle of the park for the club as they aim to defend their title. The Brazilian is joined by Bernardo Silva, who has shone for City despite being surrounded by an array of attacking talent.
The final midfield spot was a close call, but Paul Pogba claimed it following his resurgent second half to the season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, who looked out of the top-four race before the Norwegian took over from Jose Mourinho.
Honourable mentions: Christian Eriksen (Tottenham), David Silva (Man City)

Forwards – Sterling, Aguero, Mane

As mentioned, Sergio Aguero makes our Team of the Year, and the Argentine is joined by City team-mate Raheem Sterling, who was the fourth and final player to be chosen by all of us here at Eurosport.
As a result, that means Salah received zero votes in the process, though Liverpool forward Sadio Mane completes the line-up after ousting Eden Hazard for the left-wing role in what was the closest contest out of every position.
Honourable mention: Raul Jimenez (Wolves)

With a month still to go, and plenty to play for, there could yet be a hero we have forgotten, but just as the players have made their picks for the PFA Team of the Year, so too have we at Eurosport.
