Football news - City's Raheem Sterling tells police Chelsea fan racially abused him - reports

The Manchester City forward was subjected to a barrage of abuse during his side’s 2-0 Premier League defeat when he picked up the ball near some home fans.

A video has emerged of a one supporter appearing to scream "f****** black c***” at him.

Metropolitan police officers have travelled to Manchester to investigate claims of racism after Sterling reportedly told Manchester City security staff straight after the match he had heard a racist remark.

No arrests have been made, despite Chelsea working closely with police to identify the individual via CCTV footage and TV pictures from BT Sport.

Sterling wrote on Instagram: "I just want to say I am not normally the person to talk a lot but when I think I need my point to [be] heard I will speak up.

"Regarding what was said at the Chelsea game as you can see by my reaction I just had to laugh because I don’t expect no better.”

Last December, a man was jailed for 16 weeks for racially aggravated common assault on Sterling.

City suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday and they dropped to second in the standings behind Liverpool.
