United to sell Pogba

Manchester United have finally decided to sell Paul Pogba. Pogba has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho after months of poor discipline and worse performances. They are prepared to send him on loan as long as they receive their money back for him in the summer, and Juventus are the likely destination. A swap deal for Miralem Pjanic or, more likely, Alex Sandro, will help facilitate the move.

Paper Round’s view: Pogba has wasted his time at Old Trafford and Mourinho’s biggest failing has been to watch him drift for years. Getting rid of him, regardless of the future of the manager, is key to overhauling a squad that has phoned in performances for half a decade. Whether Ed Woodward will cause this to happen again with his next appointments is another problem.

Suarez offered to Arsenal

For the second consecutive day there is a story that suggests that Denis Suarez is going to be offered to Arsenal. The Barcelona player once played at Manchester City and has failed to make his way into the first-team plans at the Nou Camp. The 24 -ear-old has been offered to Premier League clubs, but Unai Emery could be tempted to bring him in for a cut price £14 million.

Paper Round’s view: Emery has done exceptionally well with his signings since his arrival at Arsenal. If he believes that he is a superior option to the outgoing Aaron Ramsey, or if he can use him to improve both the player and the side, then at £14m there is little reason not to bring him to the club in January.

Arsenal target Pavon

Arsenal boss Emery has also been linked with another player for the January transfer window. The club could bring in Cristian Pavon from Boca Juniors. The 22-year-old winger is an Argentina international, and is also wanted by Fulham. Both clubs would be able to offer life in London, but the winger’s asking price of £40 million might be too zesty for Claudio Ranieri’s team.

Paper Round’s view: Pavon has occasionally impressed for the Argentine national side, and at 22 he could perform at the highest level for the next decade. The risk for Arsenal, or any Premier League side, is that the move from Argentina to England has rarely seemed to work, but the number of settled South Americans already here could ease his acclimatisation.

West Ham want Pereira

Manchester United could lose another midfielder, with Andreas Pereira linked with a loan move to West Ham. Manuel Pellegrini wants the player on loan for the rest of the season. Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in the player on a permanent move, and the 22-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season - United have the chance to extend his deal for another year.

Paper Round’s view: Pereira is a talented youngster whose slight frame has stopped him making progress under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho. If he is not suited to the manager in charge, then it is a waste of a career not to give him a chance elsewhere. Regular minutes for West Ham might show Mourinho the error of his ways, or force a buyer out of hiding.
