De Gea's form has come under scrutiny following recent defeats to Barcelona, Everton and Manchester City, and the Spaniard was at fault when he allowed Antonio Rudiger's shot to fall at the feet of Marcos Alonso as Chelsea rescued a point on Sunday.
The 1-1 draw at Old Trafford leaves United still three points adrift of the Blues in the race to finish inside the top four with two games remaining - but Solskjaer has backed his under-fire stopper to return to form.
The United fans chanted De Gea's name as he headed down the tunnel at half-time, and Solskjaer told Sky Sports afterwards: "David has been unbelievable for this club and that just says everything about the supporters.
"We do support each other and there's no chance anyone can blame him for losing many points for us. He's been unbelievable, but he knows he could've had that shot. It's football again. I think David is one who would like to play games.
Of course, I'll have chats with him this week, and I'm sure he'll respond in the right way.
United deservedly took the lead when Juan Mata met Luke Shaw's cut-back after 11 minutes to score against his former club. But after Alonso's 44th-minute equaliser, neither side took control during a stop-start second period.
Eric Bailly suffered a knee injury while Marcus Rashford was also withdrawn with a shoulder complaint with both to be assessed this week ahead of the trip to Huddersfield.

Solskjaer added: "In the first half, we did all we hoped we would do, creating lots of chances. We got the first goal and played some nice football. But in the second half, we didn't seem to get that urgency, quality and tempo in our game.
"There were some tired heads out there, some tired legs, and we needed to win the game. The patterns that we saw work first half never turned up second half to be fair.
"I don't think you can give up until it's over. It's not over yet but there's a huge mountain to climb. We have two games and we have to do the best we can. Anything can happen."
