Raul Jimenez was stretchered off in the 16th minute of Wolverhampton Wanderers' Premier League clash with Arsenal on Sunday evening after a nasty clash of heads with David Luiz.
The Mexico international rose up for an aerial duel with Luiz inside the Wolves box before both crashed to the ground.
After a lengthy delay, the 29-year-old was stretchered off by medical staff and was substituted for 18-year-old Fabio Silva.
Luiz needed his head bandaged but carried on playing after a 10-minute delay to the action before being taken off for Rob Holding at half-time.
Jimenez was taken straight to hospital and Wolves have tweeted: "We will bring you more information on Raul as soon as we have it. "
"Raul Jimenez is doing a scan now. He's conscious. He's OK inside the gravity of the problem," Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said post-match.
"You start hearing code red. It's serious. It was a bad moment for everybody. You see panic in their [medical staff] eyes and you start thinking how is he? We are worried.
He speaks, he's aware. We have to have a proper assessment. He's in good hands.
Wolves forward Pedro said: "I was a little bit worried. I didn't see the impact but I heard it. I hope that he is OK and can recover to come back with us. "We had to try and focus on the game. We were focused and wanted to win. The way we played was unbelievable."
"I was shocked [at the collision] because I saw the reaction of the players," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said post-match.
"They were asking the doctors. We knew David Luiz was OK, it was just a cut. Raul Jimenez looked pretty bad.
"The doctor did all the tests and protocols to make sure the player [Luiz] was safe to continue. David was just worried about his cut, he never lost consciousness. He couldn't really head the ball, he was uncomfortable - nothing else - so we took him off [at half-time]."
Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock offered his sympathy: "On behalf of the club and myself, we give our best regards to Raul Jimenez. We hope he recovers well. It was a bad incident.
"David Luiz has recovered well. He looked good when I saw him in dressing room."
