Joelinton charged with drink driving after Newcastle United man pulled over by police

Newcastle United forward Joelinton will face magistrates on January 26 after being charged with drink driving. The 26-year-old was pulled over by police in the early hours of Thursday morning and was charged for being over the 'prescribed limit for alcohol'. The Magpies beat Leicester City 2-0 on Tuesday evening to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The 26-year-old was pulled over in the early hours of Thursday morning, and a Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed to the Evening Chronicle he had been charged for being over the 'prescribed limit for alcohol'.
“Shortly before 1.20am today (Thursday), officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant," a statement read. “Joelinton Casio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol.
"He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.”
There has been no comment from Newcastle United.
The Magpies are flying high in the Premier League, and beat Leicester City 2-0 on Wednesday evening to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Joelinton scored the second goal in he 2-0 win over the Foxes at St James’ Park.
The Brazilian moved to Newcastle from Hoffenheim in 2019.
He was named the club's Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season.
