Bernardo Silva's rasping first-half strike looked like being the difference between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, that was until Chris Wood popped up at the far post in the 84th minute to convert Morgan Gibbs-White's teasing cross. City, perhaps understandably, were not firing on all cylinders following their considerable midweek exertions in beating Arsenal, and it showed late on.

'We could defend better' - Guardiola after Man City held at Nottingham Forest

Chris Wood's first goal in a Nottingham Forest shirt earned a late point for his side against Manchester City, who failed to return to the top of the Premier League.
City dominated possession throughout and went in front just before half-time when Bernardo Silva's sizzling shot from the edge of the area flew above Keylor Navas into the roof of the net.
The second half saw City hit the bar twice with Erling Haaland guilty of doing so from six yards out, and then missing a rebound, and Ilkay Gundogan seeing a free-kick clip the woodwork.
A seemingly certain City victory was then dashed just six minutes from time when, in a rare attack, Brennan Johnson raced into the penalty area and played in Morgan Gibbs-White who slid a perfect low cross from the right-hand side of the area which Wood tapped in.
The draw puts City two points behind Arsenal, having played a game more, while Forest rise to 13th.

TALKING POINT - Grealish's Achilles Heel

You can't help wish Jack Grealish had a similar pivotal presence in his career to the one Walter Smith provided Cristiano Ronaldo with when he refused to award fouls to him from hard challenges in training. There are good signs in his development at Manchester City. He is now taking on players and drawing others before passing to team-mates, rather than passing from a stationary position as he did for much of his first season, failing to use the gifts which made him a £100 million player. Still, there are times when his preference to look for free-kicks, bait defenders and complain to the referee about rough treatment is detrimental to him and his side. There was an incident in the first half which typified this when, surprisingly it must be said, he was left marking Brennan Johnson on the halfway line. After being out-muscled, he fell on the floor with his arms in the air as the striker raced towards goal. Even after getting up he was outpaced by Rodri in chasing after the Forest man, who put his effort wide. More concerning is at the other end of the field though. With his sublime skill and defenders fearing him running at them a free-kick should always be the second-best option for him, but he will likely never grasp this.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Felipe (Nottingham Forest)

There is a lot of competition, in quantity as much as quality, but the experienced centre-back may prove to be the best signing Nottingham Forest have made this season. He is extremely unflustered and despite City camping in Forest's defensive third managed to for the most part keep a calm head, while those around him sometimes panicked, making crucial interceptions from the number of crosses or passes into the box from Chelsea. A defender who spent time under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, albeit often not a first choice, would always seem a shrewd signing and so it has proved.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

34' THE CLOSEST SO FAR! A lovely cross from De Bruyne finds Rodri unmarked at the penalty spot but he heads just wide of the far post.
41' GOAL FOR CITY! Grealish laid the ball square for Bernardo Silva in space 25 yards from goal and he smashed a ball with the outside of his left boot into the roof of the net but just above Navas who could not get near due to the power.
53' LAPORTE HAD TO SCORE! But his header from a corner hits Navas in the midriff and the 'keeper recovers to gather the ball.
69' HAALAND MISSES TWO EASY CHANCES! Navas should have done better than to just block Foden's shot but Haaland shoots against the bar from six yards and then sends the follow up over the bar.
73' OFF THE BAR AGAIN! Gundogan's free-kick clips the top of the crossbar.
84' GOAL FOR FOREST! Wood taps in at the far post after a fine run from Johnson and Gibbs-White who got the ball across from the right by-line and put it on a plate for the big striker's first Forest goal.
