Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United: Spurs fight back to salvage draw against Man Utd in Premier League

Pedro Porro and Heung-min Son scored the goals as Tottenham Hotspur fought back from two goals down to seal a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had given Erik ten Hag’s side a two-goal lead at the interval but Ryan Mason’s side fought back to ensure a share of the spoils. The result sees Spurs up into fifth while United stay fourth.

Heung-Min Son struck late to rescue a point as Tottenham hit back from two down to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Manchester United in Ryan Mason’s first match as caretaker manager.
The Lilywhites were aiming to provide a reaction to their humbling at Newcastle United, but they were initially booed off at the interval following a disjointed first 45.
Sancho opened the scoring for the Red Devils on seven minutes with a ruthlessly effective feint and finish from the left side of the area.
United then missed a number of chances to extend their lead with Sancho and Marcus Rashford going close before the latter netted his 29th goal of the campaign on the stroke of half time with a show of pace and clinical finishing.
Spurs eventually did show some spirit and reduced the arrears through Pedro Porro’s smart volley following the break.
Son and Eric Dier then failed to finish off huge chances to level before the hosts finally got their reward for some intense pressure when Son tucked in Harry Kane’s superb cross 11 minutes from time.
The result means Manchester United lie in fourth spot, two points behind Newcastle in third and six ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham.
Next up, the race for Europe continues apace as Spurs visit Liverpool and United host Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.
Talking point
Delayed reaction offers Spurs hope as United blow chance to pull clear in top-four race. Tottenham’s players offered supporters a refund following the debacle at Newcastle and suggested they would react against Man United. Those words looked like being very hollow at the break as the audible dismay of the crowd won’t have gone unnoticed by Mason and Co.
To his credit, the interim boss managed to get a response out of his side and if they had taken some of the clear-cut second-half chances they created, they could even have won it.
The point may not be enough for a realistic Champions League push, but it should at least create an air of positivity to move forward on.
As for United, they will feel they should have been out of sight at half time but they struggled to contain the home side after that and perhaps Eric ten Hag’s changes had a negative impact.
They remain very much in the box seat to reach next season’s Champions League, however, but the dropped points will keep the chasing pack interested and who knows how significant it could be come the final day of the season?

Harry Kane (Tottenham). The striker may not have got on the scoresheet, but he was a continual creative force for Tottenham. He would have loved to have got on the end of some of his probing deliveries but did eventually get the assist and was key to his team’s recovery.
