It was three hard-earned points for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on the road at Burnley as a surprise brace from Matty Cash saw the visitors maintain their positive start to the Premier League season. New summer signing Moussa Diaby – after scoring on the opening day – notched again, as Vincent Kompany’s side just couldn’t get close enough, despite a second-half goal from Lyle Foster.

Matty Cash grabbed a rare brace as Aston Villa took all three points at Burnley after an impressive 3-1 win at Turf Moor.
Villa grabbed the opener inside 10 minutes as John McGinn's brilliant ball over the top set Ollie Watkins through on goal. The England man beat Clarets shot-stopper James Trafford to the ball, and his dinked cross found Cash who lashed home at the back post for 1-0.
Cash doubled his side's lead - and his personal tally - just six minutes later after playing a brilliant one-two with Moussa Diaby on the edge of the box, smashing past Trafford a second time for 2-0.
While Burnley looked bereft of ideas and without a shot on target in the first 45, Villa looked a team in total control of the match, with Pau Torres impressing at the back.
But the mood inside Turf Moor shifted just two minutes into the second half when Lyle Foster pulled one back for the hosts, turning inside the box to rifle home Burnley's first goal of the season.
Vincent Kompany's men went straight in search of a leveller, with Sander Berge threatening down both flanks and Foster threatening a second from distance.
But as Burnley looked like grabbing an equaliser, Villa landed a sucker punch at the other end as Lucas Digne's brilliant cut-back found Diaby on the edge of the box, and he brilliantly swept home past Trafford.
Villa took back control and should have made it four, but Watkins' effort from just five yards out was expertly saved by Trafford.
Substitute and summer signing Nicolo Zaniolo also forced a save from Trafford with almost his first touch in Premier League football.
Burnley looked deflated as the game went on, and while substitute Jay Rodriguez went close with two ambitious efforts, Villa saw the game out to claim all three points and leave Burnley with none from two games.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - JOHN MCGINN

John McGinn is an exceptional footballer and he was at the heart of everything Villa did. There are few better plays in the Premier League at picking the ball up from deep in midfield, driving forward, before playing a killer pass. He dominated the park against Burnley. Cash deserves an honourable mention for grabbing a brace from defence, but nothing happens without McGinn.

TALKING POINT - SKY'S THE LIMIT FOR VILLA

Aston Villa have talent in attack, strength at the back, a very good bench and a brilliant manager. For all the promise they showed last season, this term they could go one better.
Torres looks a brilliant addition, while the likes of Diaby and Zaniolo look like they could cause teams some big trouble this season. Coupled with old favourites McGinn and Watkins and suddenly Villa look like a team that could take on the very best.
