Cole Palmer has admitted that he did not believe that he had a chance of being in England's squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany, but after another excellent performance in front of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, the forward is well in contention for a place on the plane. Palmer scored a brilliant second goal for Chelsea, and set up Nicolas Jackon's opener against Newcastle.

Pochettino admits his future at Chelsea is ‘not in my hands’ – ‘Up to them to trust or not’

Cole Palmer put in another stellar display in front of England manager Gareth Southgate as the Chelsea forward continues to push for a place in the Euro 2024 squad.
Palmer, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from champions Manchester City for £40m last summer, set up the Blues’ opener in their 3-2 win over Newcastle United on Monday.
Nicolas Jackson flicked home his initial strike, before a left-footed drive inside Martin Dubravka’s near post put the home side back in front after Alexander Isak had equalised for the Toon.
Mykhailo Mudryk made it three off the bench, before Jacob Murphy set up a grand-stand finish with a second for Newcastle in the dying embers, but Chelsea clung on for a win that eases the pressure slightly for under-fire manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The Blues would be much worse off without Palmer this term, however, with the 21-year-old now up to 11 goals and eight assists in the Premier League this season.
Asked about his chances of a call-up to Euro 2024 in Germany this summer, Palmer told Sky Sports: "If you had told me at the start of the season I had a chance to go to the Euros I wouldn't have believed it.
“I will just take it each game as it comes and see what happens in the summer."
Chelsea have endured another disappointing league season, languishing in 10th in the table, despite spending over £1 billion since Todd Boehly’s Clearlake consortium took charge of the west London outfit.
However, Palmer, one of the many young stars signed by the Blues as part of their long-term project, believes in the Blues’ potential.
"There's so much talent around Chelsea that the fans don't see and [the media] don't see,” he said.
“If not next season, the season after, you will see it sooner or later. We're still in the FA Cup and hopefully win on Sunday to get to Wembley again."
Tino Livramento was another England hopeful who could well have caught the eye of Southgate, who was sat in the stands at Stamford Bridge.
Livramento was a constant threat down the Newcastle right, before showing his versatility by switching to left-back when Dan Burn was forced off with an injury for the visitors.

Eddie Howe spoke positively about his right-back’s international chances, particularly with England’s injury problems in the position at present, which include Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier.
"Tino is not far away [from a call-up],” Howe told Sky Sports.
“He's got huge competition in that area and I'm sure he will be in the frame. He has all the quality, he attacked very well in the first half, it was a good performance from him."
