Jurgen Klopp said the “best memories are yet to come” before he leaves Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. The club announced on Friday that the German would be stepping down as first-team manager after nine years in charge. Klopp said he had no regrets but only special memories on Merseyside, and he wants to make more. “In my ideal world, the best memories are yet to come,” he said.

Klopp hopes 'best memories still to come' in final season at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp insisted "the best memories are yet to come" following the shock announcement that he will step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.
The German arrived at Anfield in 2015 and has won six major trophies across nine years in charge, including UEFA Champions League and Premier League titles.
Klopp also delivered a domestic double in 2022, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup double in 2019.
In a press conference on Friday, Klopp said he has no regrets from his time at Anfield despite coming close to more major honours.
"I'm not in the mood to think about that [regrets]. I don't have to remember anything now,” Klopp told reporters. “In my ideal world, the best memories are yet to come.
“That's not what today is about. I have no regrets but a lot of special memories.

“It would be so easy in this job to blame the owners if I said 'FSG could have spent more' but that's not it.
“We built two stands that will stay forever. We built this AXA training ground that will stay for the next 30, 40 or 50 years.
“We did it all the Liverpool way, which I love. That we didn't win the league with 97 points [in 2018/19] or the Champions League [in 2017/18 and 2021/22] is fine.
“You could say we should have spent more money on a player, I understand that's a fan view but that can never be a professional view.
“If you want to blame someone for not winning the Champions League three times then you can blame me, nobody else. Everyone else brought us to that point."
In a post on Liverpool’s social media channels to break the news on Friday, Klopp explained that his decision to leave the club was because he was “running out of energy”.

He expanded on his reasons in the press conference and admitted his decision was final.
"With all the responsibility you have in this job, you have to be top of your game," he said. "I've been doing this 24 years now. When you have the career I had it's almost impossible to start where I did and arrive at Liverpool.
"I always invested everything I had. I realised my resources are not endless and I prefer to pack everything into this season and then have a break or stop or whatever. We're not young rabbits any more and we don't jump as high as we did.
"I still think it's the right thing to do. I don't take these things lightly. I'm convinced it's right.”
For the remainder of his time in charge, Liverpool will continue to compete for four major trophies this season.
They are currently top of the Premier League table, have progressed to the League Cup final, are in the fourth round of the FA Cup and get their UEFA Europa League knockout campaign underway in March.
However, Klopp says there is “no guarantee” they will win more silverware under his stewardship.
“We were not guaranteed to win anything this season and there are still no guarantees,” he said. “I cannot do the job in the future but I can do it very well right now.”
No matter how the season ends, Klopp will leave Merseyside as a Liverpool legend in the summer.

'Massive shock!' - Liverpool fans give first reaction to Klopp announcement

The current boss said joining Liverpool is one of the “best things that could have happened to him” and when discussing his future, completely ruled out joining another English club.
“I knew about the size of the club, but that’s all I knew,” he said. “I did not know about the people, because how can you know without experiencing it.
“Being an honorary Scouser is one of the best things that could have happened to me.
“The way these people deal with difficulties is a role model for me, I learnt so much here.
“No club, no country for the next year. No other English club ever, I can promise that, even if I have nothing to eat, that will not happen.”
