Manchester United will be without a recognised senior left-back after the club confirmed that Luke Shaw would miss "a few months" of the season. The England international will also miss the Three Lions' friendlies against Brazil and Belgium next month, with Gareth Southgate sweating over the full-back's fitness ahead of Euro 2024, which starts for England on June 16 against Serbia.

Martinez injury 'doesn't look good' - Ten Hag reacts after United win over West Ham

Manchester United have confirmed that Luke Shaw will be out for “a few months” with injury, leaving Erik ten Hag without a recognised left-back.
Shaw was taken off in both of United’s previous games - at half-time against Aston Villa, and in the first half in the 2-1 victory over Luton - with Ten Hag saying that his decisions were precautionary.
United confirmed the news on the club’s official website, saying: "Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.”
Shaw, who has made 12 appearances for the Red Devils this term, has been in and out of the side with constant niggles, and the left-back missed the first three months of the season with another knock.
Lisandro Martinez has also been ruled out for eight weeks with a knee injury.
Tyrell Malacia, their alternative option at left back, is also sidelined with a long-term injury. The Dutchman has not played for the club since June of last year.
Victor Lindelof, a natural centre-back, has filled in in Shaw’s absence, and United previously had Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham, before terminating his loan deal in January. Reguilon is now on loan at Brentford.
Diogo Dalot, the right-back, has also played on the left of the Old Trafford outfit's back four, although Aaron Wan-Bissaka's spell on the treatment table has meant that United are short of right-sided full-backs as well.
United’s other left-back option, the youngster Alvaro Fernandez, who caught the eye on loan at Championship side Preston last term, is also away from the club, having been loaned to Benfica in January after he was recalled from an initial temporary spell at Granada.
Shaw’s absence will also have England manager Gareth Southgate sweating over the left-back’s availability and match fitness ahead of Euro 2024, with the Manchester United full-back set to miss the Three Lions’ upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium next month.
England’s European Championships campaign begins on June 16 against Serbia.
