Marcus Rashford says Manchester United need 'old-school positive energy' but promises 'we will be back where we belong'

Marcus Rashford has not been at his sparkling best this season, and has been on the end of some negative headlines in the press. The England international forward has admitted Manchester United are not in the position they desire, but the 26-year-old has vowed to fight on and help The Red Devils push in on the final months of the Premier League campaign.

Marcus Rashford has said Manchester United are lacking “old-school positive energy,” and will look to use any negativity to his advantage.
After a stellar season in 2022/23, with 30 goals in all competitions, Rashford’s form has been way below that previous campaign.
United are also struggling in the Premier League, and face a battle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as they sit eight points adrift of the top four.
As a United supporter, Rashford can understand fans’ frustrations but has called on those inside Old Trafford to back the team.
“We all know that this has been a club in transition the last few seasons,” Rashford wrote on The Players’ Tribune. “When we are winning, you are the greatest fans in the world, and that’s a fact.
“We need more of that old-school positive energy around the club. I know what that kind of atmosphere can do, because it kept me going through my worst moments.
“Every time I walk out onto the pitch and I hear the fans singing my name, or I look around Old Trafford before kick-off, I feel that same positive energy."

Ten Hag 'sure' that Antony will 'fight back' after recent struggles

Rashford has come in for criticism in the media, while a small section of United fans have questioned his performances. But the England international has said his commitment to the club cannot be doubted.
“I can take any criticism,” he said. “I can take any headline. From podcasts, social media and the papers. I can take it. But if you start questioning my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family into it, then I’d simply ask you to have a bit more humanity.”
Rashford feels the squad at manager Erik ten Hag’s disposal has not realised its potential, and the 26-year-old will use any negativity as fuel.
“If I’m honest, a part of me doesn't mind it when people doubt me,” Rashford said. “Every single time I’ve been down, physically or mentally, I always feel like that’s when I turn it around and play my best football for United and England.
“I promise you, the world has not seen the best of this United squad and these players. We want to be back playing in the Champions League, then we have a massive international tournament at the end of the season. We will be back where we belong. We just have to keep working, and that starts with me.
“If you back me, good. If you doubt me, even better.”
