Phil Foden: Man City hat-trick hero in 'best form' for a 'long time' but says it would 'help to play one position'

Phil Foden was the star of the show for Manchester City as they came from behind to beat Brentford and close to two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. Foden scored a hat-trick for City, who had fallen behind to Neal Maupay's opener. Foden says he is in the "best form" he has been in for a while, and manager Pep Guardiola said he is having his "best season".

'Nobody can play the way he does' - Foden says it's a 'pleasure' to play alongside De Bruyne

Phil Foden says it would help his game if he “played one position” but thinks he is in his “best form” in a while after scoring a hat-trick to lead Manchester City past Brentford.
Foden equalised for City late in the first half and then struck twice after the break to secure a 3-1 win.
The 23-year-old has become an important player under Pep Guardiola but has often been played in different positions.
Against Brentford he was deployed in an inside attacking role and shone with his second Premier League treble.
“Really delighted with my performances at the moment,” he told Sky Sports.
“I think I’m playing a lot of minutes now, more inside as well which is where I want to be.
“Obviously it would help if I played one position and learned that position every game, but I am a person who adapts and plays a lot of positions when needed.
“I know in this Man City side I am going to do that and play a lot of positions and I have to be ready. I am just enjoying playing anywhere in the middle.
"That’s where I see myself playing my best football so hopefully I can keep getting more game time in the middle and keep playing there as long as I can.
“Probably the best form I have had in a City shirt for a long time so long may that continue.”
The win over Brentford saw City move two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand.
Guardiola sang the praises of Foden after the match and said he is having his "best season" since he took charge.
“When they defend deep, they are so, so deep and spaces are so difficult and have a player that can move good in these spaces is really important,” said Guardiola.
“He’s a guy with a sense of goal. He loves to be moving in the 18-yard box and has a lot of weapons…I think he’s playing his best season since we are together so the incidents in the goals and assists playing in this central positions are unbelievable.”
City dominated most of the game but fell behind to Neal Maupay’s opener.
It looked like they would go in 1-0 down at the break before Foden fired home to level the scores.
“It came at a great time just before the break, it gives you a good feeling going into the second half,” said Foden.
“I am delighted with the performance because it’s so difficult here. They cause a lot of big teams problems but I thought throughout we deserved the win, we had a lot of chances and dominated the ball.”
