Onyewu in Toon medical

Newcastle are close to signing American defender Oguchi Onyewu on loan and the Premiership club have confirmed that he is on Tyneside for a medical.

The Magpies are looking to sign the centre-half from Belgium club Standard Liege.
"Newcastle can confirm that Oguchi Oneyewu is on Tyneside having a medical with a view to joining the club," the Magpies said in a statement on their website.
"The American centre half is hopeful of sealing a move to the Magpies from Belgium outfit Standard Liege."
Onyewu, capped 17 times for the United States, joined Liege from French side Metz.
Standard have now admitted 'Gooch' is in discussions with the Magpies.
"I can't tell you about his situation today but I will be able to inform you about his future by tomorrow evening," spokesman Frederic Leidgens told eurosport.com.
"We are aware of Marseille and Newcastle's interest.
"I don't know if he was at Newcastle yesterday, as it was a day off for our players.
"But I can confirm that he is at Newcastle now."
