The France defender, who missed Euro 2016 with a thigh injury, turned down the Portuguese’s advances according to Marca, whose front page reads: “Varane says no to Mou”
Mourinho signed the 23-year-old from Lens in 2011 and is said to have contacted the centre-back directly to tell him he wants him at Old Trafford in a deal that would have been worth £33million.
According to the report, Varane declined the offer after “thinking very seriously” about it. However, he will have to fight for his place under manager Zinedine Zidane, as he is third-choice centre back behind captain Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
