Real Madrid’s appeal to be reinstated into the Copa del Rey was rejected by the Spanish football federation (RFEF) on Thursday.
Denis Cheryshev opened the scoring in Real’s 3-1 win over Cadiz in the last 32, but the Russian midfielder was meant to be serving a one-match suspension.
Real president Florentino Perez claimed the club had not breached the rules, adding that neither the club nor the midfielder were informed of the ban. Cheryshev picked up the ban while on loan at Villarreal last season.

However, their protests were dismissed by the RFEF.
In an initial nine-page rebuttal, the governing body said the Spanish giants should have known about the ban. Real were also fined 6,001 euros.
Rafa Benitez’s side could still lodge a new appeal with the Spanish government's Disciplinary Committee for Sports (TAD).
