Sarina Wiegman has extended her stay as head coach of England women, taking her through to the end of the 2027 World Cup. Since taking over in September 2021, the Dutch manager has guided her side to the European Championship title and the final of the 2023 World Cup, which was won by Spain. Wiegman’s assistant Arjan Veurink has also signed a new deal.

Wiegman feels ‘very privileged’ to have won Best Women's Coach for fourth time

England head coach Sarina Wiegman says her side “have unfinished business” and are “capable of even more” after signing a contract extension until at least the end of the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The Dutch manager succeeded Phil Neville as permanent boss in 2021, following Hege Riise's interim spell, and she made an instant impact, guiding her side to the European Championship title less than a year later and then continuing an unbeaten run which eventually stopped at 30 matches.
Wiegman also led England to the final of last year’s World Cup final, which was won by Spain.
Her previous deal was due to end after Women’s Euro 2025, but she can now prepare for another shot at becoming world champions. The 54-year-old also won the FIFA Best Women’s Coach award for a record fourth time on Monday.
The only blot during Wiegman’s reign so far was England’s failure to progress in the Nations League, which ended Team GB’s hopes of having a women’s football team at the Paris Olympics this summer.
Her assistant Arjan Veurink, who has worked alongside Wiegman since the start, has also signed a new deal.
“I am so happy to have the chance to lead England through to 2027 after an incredible two and a half years,” Wiegman said.
“Looking forward, we have unfinished business and I know we are capable of even more, although nothing will come easy.
“Our game is becoming so competitive at the top level. I relish that opportunity and can’t wait to start the Euro qualifiers, followed by the World Cup.
“It is a fantastic job working with these amazing players and alongside great colleagues. And, of course, it is very special to be able to play a part in giving our fans such wonderful moments.”
England are next due to play next month, with opponents yet to be confirmed, before starting their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign in April.
“We are thrilled Sarina has agreed to extend her time with us as we head into another significant period of international football. She has achieved so much through her outstanding work as a coach and leader, and there is more to come,” said FA CEO Mark Bullingham.
“The aim with our England teams is to be a consistent competitive force in major tournaments, and Sarina has helped us achieve that - building on what had been several years of positive progress.
“She has also been a tremendous ambassador for the women’s game, and English football in general.”
