Alessandro Del Piero has launched a stinging attack on former Juventus boss Fabio Capello, accusing him of treating senior players like children. The 31-year-old featured mainly as a substitute during Capello's two years at the Stadio Delle Alpi, with the
Capello moved to Madrid following Juve's demotion to Serie B having won two consecutive league titles - subsequently stripped from the club after Italian football's match-fixing investigation.
While popular with the fans, he proved less of a hit with his club captain, who described the Juventus training regime as "terror".
"The last two years were very tough. But I can now return to playing football with love and enjoyment," said Del Piero.
Capello's sides are famed for their fitness and discipline, but Del Piero believes the former AC Milan and Roma coach's hard-line regime went too far.
"The era of terror in training under Capello has gone. After all, you can't treat a 30-year-old like an 18-year-old."
Del Piero is one of the few high-profile players remaining after a mass exodus over the summer. He said his decision to stay was motivated by his love for the club, and refused to condemn the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluca Zambrotta and Patrick Vieira who have left for pastures new.
"I have understood that Juventus - as Pavel Nedved said - need senior players in order to go back up ... But I respect the decision of those players who decided to change shirts."
