Palermo defender Cesare Bovo’s own goal in the 79th minute handed Fiorentina the lead at 3-2, and the visitors didn’t look back with stylish midfielder Ricardo Montolivo putting the final nail in the coffin when he netted two minutes before the end.
Rosnaero supporter’s couldn’t believe their eyes when forward Javier Pastore got the home side off to a flyer in the 7th minute.
Set up by Josip Ilicic, Pastore side footed a powerful shot past Fiorentina keeper Artur Boruc which thundered into the top right hand corner of the net.
Playing three up-front Fiorentina looked dangerous with Adrian Mutu, Mario Santana and Alberto Gilardino, with the later forcing a great save from Palermo custodian Salvatore Sirigu in the 19th minute.
Working tirelessly in attack Gilardino was rewarded in the 36th minute when he finished off a brilliant move instigated by Montolivo to level the match at a goal a-piece.
The final pass came from new recruit Valon Behrami who put in a cheeky chip over the Palermo defence, and moving toward the six-yard box Gilardino nodded low past Sirigu.
Fiorentina should have taken the lead just before the break when Santana picked out and un-marked Behrami with a delightful cross, but the Swiss internationals header when inches wide.
Jumping straight onto the front foot as play resumed for the second, Palermo took the lead once again when Antonio Nocerino headed home Miccoli’s brilliant chipped cross in the 48th minute.
However, the Fiorentina fight back began in the 70th minute when defender Michele Camporese was left free at a corner and netted a second equaliser to make it 2-2, before Bovo's own goal nine minutes later put Fiorentina firmly in the box seat.
Montolivo rounding out proceedings when he tucked the ball home two minutes from time, after Adem Lijajic picked him out from the right.
Fiorentina's three points lift them up to 10th in the Serie A table - ahead of Chievo who were beaten 4-1 by Cagliari - while Palermo end the day in seventh place.
Elsewhere in Serie A on Sunday Sampdoria struck three times in the opening quarter of an hour to sweep past Bologna 3-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in a mid-table clash, while Udinese coasted to a 3-0 victory on the road at struggling Cesena to keep in the race for Champions League places.
Catania won a crucial match at home to Lecce 3-2 to ease their relegation worries and edge ahead of their opponents of the day into 16th place, while Bari held on for a point against Genoa at the Stadio San Nicola - but still remain six points adrift at the foot of the table.
