The goalkeeper had already worn the jersey in 2013-14 while on loan from Liverpool, but the clubs could not agree on terms to make his stay permanent.
He spent last season at Bayern Munich, but spent most of the campaign on the bench.
“Welcome back,” read a tweet from president Aurelio De Laurentiis, showing the two of them shaking hands.
Bayern Munich vice-president Jan-Christian Dreesen also confirmed “he asked us to free him from his contract so he could play regularly at Napoli.”
Reina spoke to reporters outside the Villa Stuart clinic after his medical.
“Finally I am going back to Napoli, it was what I wanted.”
OUR VIEW
It was a crying shame to see a goalkeeper of Reina’s calibre on the Bayern Munich bench last season. At 32 Reina is entering his prime as a keeper and he should be showcasing his talents in the upper echelons of European football.
Napoli struggled with Rafael Cabral or Mariano Andujar in goal last season and the return of Reina should see a more steady hand at the back as Maurizio Sarri looks to forge a side capable of returning to the Champions League.
