Khvicha Kvaratskhelia: Napoli star's agent hints at possible Real Madrid or Barcelona move

Updated 02/03/2023 at 14:07 GMT

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's heroics for Napoli so far this season have earned him the nickname 'Kvaradona' after the legendary Diego Maradona. However, even if he helps the Italian side to a first Serie A title in 33 years, his future is likely to be away from the club with agent Mamuka Jugeli suggesting one of La Liga's big two - Real Madrid and Barcelona - as a potential destination.

Runaway Serie A leaders Napoli play down favourites tag

The agent of Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has dropped hints that the player could be set to make a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Kvaratskhelia, 22, has helped Napoli soar up to the Serie A summit with his 10 goals and 11 assists in the league setting the team on course for a historic first title since 1990.
The summer signing from Dinamo Batumi in his native Georgia has earned the nickname ‘Kvaradona’ after former Napoli and football legend Diego Maradona.
However, according to Mamuka Jugeli who represents the player, a move to one of Spain’s big two could be on the cards.
“His father and I are Barca fans,” Jugeli told Georgian outlet Geo Team on their YouTube channel. “But Kvara loves Real Madrid.
“If I see him in a Barca shirt I'll be happy, but he's Madridista”
There is currently no suggestion that either side is preparing a bid for the player, while his performances in Italy have reportedly attracted the attention of Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City.
Despite impressing in Naples, Jugeli’s declaration indicates the player’s future is likely to be away from Napoli.

'Kvaratskhelia might prefer Madrid but Perez won’t want to block Vinicius development'

We spoke to Eurosport Spain's Felix Martin to get the lowdown on a potential blockbuster move to La Liga - and whether he will get a dream move to the Bernabeu.
"I want to believe that the will of the player should always prevail over the will of his father or his agent. And if the club where the player wants to play, in this case Real Madrid, is interested in signing him, I don't see why he couldn't be dressing in white next year," said Martin.
"But Kvaratskhelia plays as a left winger and Real Madrid has Vinicius Junior in that position. I strongly doubt that the club has the will to cut the progression of Vinicius, considered nowadays among the three best players in the world in his position.
"Kvaratskhelia would have an easier time playing for Barcelona. I doubt very much that Florentino Perez wants to sign a competitor for Vinicius Junior on the left wing.
"I think that Madrid has enough financial power to be able to make two major signings this summer. However, I'm not sure Barca are in a position to be able to spend more than €100 million on a player like Kvaratskhelia."
