Juventus 1-0 Hellas Verona: Andrea Cambiaso the hero as last-gasp winner sends Juve top of Serie A

Andrea Cambiaso’s scrappy goal in the 96th minute earned Juventus a last-gasp win over Hellas Verona to send the Turin club to the top of the Serie A table.

The relief was palpable for Juve after an evening when Moise Kean twice saw goals disallowed by the video assistant referee on a hugely frustrating night for the otherwise lively forward.

Kean’s first, well-finished after a brilliant solo move, was ruled out for an extremely tight offside as he came back to receive the ball earlier in the move.

And his second, well-finished after the break, was ruled out for a foul by Kean himself back near halfway earlier in the build-up.

Verona held on right until the very last. But with barely seconds remaining, an Arkadiusz Milik header came back off the post and Cambiaso was able to scramble it across the line to spark jubilant scenes at the Allianz.

Moise Kean very nearly had an excellent game, looking like his team’s most dangerous attacking player for much of the first hour and ‘scoring’ two excellent goals.

But twice he was denied by VAR, compounding the frustration that has build for the forward through his goalless stretch for the club.

And he was left with an anguished look on his face right until the final seconds of the game, when he rose from the bench to join the celebrations of the late, late winner.

Kean was the story of the night right up until Cambiaso’s late winner, and the forward was frankly brilliant for much of the evening. If either of his goals had been allowed to stand they would have been classy moments for a player who troubled Verona right until he was taken off with emotions running high in the second half.

13’ – NO GOAL! Oh my, how unfortunate is that. An offside call denies Kean his first goal in ten matches and his excellent early strike is ruled out.

53’ – NO GOAL! No way! You have to feel sorry for Kean. That’s his second goal of the night ruled out by VAR. On this occasion an incident involving Kean back on halfway in the build-up is deemed enough to rule out the goal. Again we’re back to 0-0.

90+6’ – GOAL! It’s a winner for Juventus, right at the very last with just seconds remaining. The Allianz goes wild as Juve players celebrate with relief. It was a hopeful ball to the back post that Milik headed across goal. The ball bounced back off the post and Cambiaso was on hand to poke the loose ball home in the resulting melee and get Juve the win they have pushed so hard for! The goalscorer gets a yellow card and Allegri is sent off from the dugout in the aftermath.
