Inter Milan overcame Atalanta 2-1 in a tense affair at the Gewiss Stadium. The Nerazzurri extended their lead at the top of the Serie A table to five points with the victory, with goals coming from Hakan Calhanoglu's 40th-minute penalty, and Lautaro Martinez's curler on 57 minutes. Gianluca Scamacca halved the deficit for Atalanta, but their hopes were shot when Rafael Toloi saw red late on.

'The captain delivers yet again' - Martinez stunner puts Inter in control at Atalanta

Lautaro Martinez was the match winner as his fantastic finish proved the difference between Inter Milan and Atalanta, as the Nerazzurri overcame the 10-man Bergamo outfit 2-1.
Hakan Calhanoglu, the Turkish midfielder, had given the visitors the lead from the penalty spot five minutes before half-time at the Gewiss Stadium, after Matteo Darmian had been felled by home goalkeeper Juan Musso.
Calhanoglu's penalty was powerfully placed into the bottom left corner, as the Serie A leaders went in at the break a goal to the good.
Simone Inzaghi's visitors kept their momentum going after the interval, and were rewarded with a wonderful second on 57 minutes, from the boot of their captain Martinez, who worked space to shoot on the edge of the area, curling a sumptuous effort beyond his flailing compatriot Musso into the far corner.
Gianluca Scamacca, the former West Ham striker who had been the subject of multiple bids from Inter last summer, pulled La Dea back into the equation as Ademola Lookman robbed Federico Dimarco of possession, sliding in the tall Italian to fire Atalanta within one.
Atalanta continued to push for a late leveller, but their hopes were dashed in the second minute of stoppage time, as Rafael Toloi, the second-half substitute, was sent off, hauling Alexis Sanchez down, earning himself a second yellow and early bath.
The win extends Inter's lead at the top of Serie A to five points, with Juventus in second.
Atalanta, meanwhile, slip to fifth, as Gian Piero Gasparini's side fall to a second defeat in their last four, following a 3-2 loss to Lazio a month ago.
