Serie A returns after the international break with Inter Milan looking to win their 20th title.
Simone Inzaghi’s side are currently 14 points ahead of arch-rivals AC Milan in second and look on course to secure the Scudetto.
Elsewhere, surprise-package Bologna are looking to hold on to fourth and qualify for the UEFA Champions League, whilst Daniele De Rossi’s resurgent Roma are hot on their heels in fifth.
However, if you were glancing through the Serie A fixtures this weekend, you might have been surprised to see that there are no Italian games taking place this Sunday, March 31.
Why are there no Serie A games on Sunday? It’s actually quite simple.

Why are there no Serie A games on Sunday?

There are no Serie A games on Sunday, March 31 because of Easter Sunday.
Unlike other major European leagues, there has been a long-standing belief within Italian football that time off at Christmas and Easter to be with family is important for everyone, including footballers and those working at clubs.
So that is why there are no Serie A games on Sunday, March 31.

When will the extra Serie A games be played?

In previous years, the round of fixtures have been played on the Friday and Saturday, or even just entirely on the Saturday, but this year the games will be played on Saturday, March 30 and Monday, April 1.

Do any other leagues not have games on Sunday?

The Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 will all play games on Sunday, March 31.
The Eredivisie and Liga Portugal will also play games, albeit the latter only has one game with none of the big four (Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Braga) playing.

Does Serie A have a winter break?

Traditionally, Serie A has played with a winter break, but changes to the calendar recently have brought an end to that in favour of fewer midweek rounds.
This year, games were played on December 22/23 and December 29/30.
