The hitman came on as a second half substitute at the Stadio San Paolo with ten-man Napoli locked at 0-0 after Uruguyan Nicolas Amodio had been sent off.
De Zerbi pounced with just nine minutes left and to hand the Neopolitans all three points and keep in touch with the Serie B leaders.
"I didn't come here as a tourist," De Zerbi said. "I've dreamt of scoring this goal for a long time.
"The Stadio San Paolo brings out a lot of emotion in you. I've been happy to score in many other stadiums, but to come on here, after starting the match on the bench, playing with a man down, and to score and celebrate with the supporters has been the best."
